YVYS began when Becca, the vocalist, and Derick, the lead guitarist, connected on VAMPR, a platform for musicians to find each other. Both were on the lookout to form a band, so they decided to meet for a jam session – and quickly realized they had musical chemistry worth pursuing.

 

They set off on a search for a bassist and drummer, but it wasn’t an easy journey. Many potential members either didn’t click or simply ghosted them, leaving Becca and Derick stuck in a revolving door of brief introductions and letdowns. But then Derick remembered a friend who might be interested in playing bass. That friend turned out to be TT, who soon joined as YVYS's bassist and instantly felt like a perfect fit.

 

With Becca, Derick, and TT in sync, the band still needed a drummer. Becca thought of Leo Avant, a drummer she’d seen in the local scene; they shared friends and had crossed paths at events with their previous bands. Leo joined, bringing years of experience and versatility from playing across various genres, adding a dynamic layer to the group.

Each member of YVYS brings a unique musical taste to the band: Derick’s heavy riffs are inspired by his love of metal, TT’s basslines carry the timeless influence of his Beatles fandom, Leo’s drumming brings a blend of styles from his wide-ranging musical experience, and Becca’s raw, energetic vocals are rooted in her passion for punk rock. Based in Camden, London, YVYS is currently channeling these diverse influences into their first album, crafting a sound that’s as varied as the backgrounds they bring together.
